Ah, Spring cleaning! Open the windows, air out the house, put away those things of Winter use and enjoy the new hope of Spring. We are having beautiful weather in Missouri, so hesitantly after some recent weather teases, I decided it was time to put the Winter stuff away. The ice-melt, window scraper, stocking hat, gloves, etc., you know what I mean. It is time—it’s Spring for real!
At least that is my hope. I did some things in the yard that are counting on my hope to be true…otherwise we have a problem. If my trust in the weather is unfounded and it turns back to…dare I say…Winter-like…then I have some issues. I put it away to soon!
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes read the Bible and come upon a particular part and think “well that is good” but then I tuck it away for another day because I don’t think I need that right now—that does not apply to what I am going through—it is not applicable to this season in my life. I’m in Spring…. not Winter!
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” I think we should take to heart “alive and active”. This tells me that God’s Word, all of it, is relevant to me always—God means what He says and says what He means! Now I am not saying there are not specific verses or passages that are of particularly special meaning to us during different times in our lives, of course there are and that is by God’s design. But to live the true blessings of God’s plan we must live our lives according to His whole plan and not pick and choose based on our understanding or desires. The Bible does not need Spring cleaning; there is no knowledge in it that we can afford to put away for another day.
